Jammu: The Union Home Secretary is scheduled to visit Jammu on Sunday to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir alongside the heads of paramilitary forces, police, and intelligence agencies from both the central government and the union territory.

This marks Govind Mohan’s first security review meeting in the region since assuming office as Union Home Secretary. On Saturday, the Director General of the Border Security Force, Daljit Singh Chaudhary, visited the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district to evaluate the operational readiness of BSF personnel deployed in the area.

Top officials from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) responsible for Jammu and Kashmir’s security will also attend the review session.

The meeting will be conducted in two parts, with the police chiefs from all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir expected to participate in one of the sessions.

Sources indicated that while the meeting will cover overall security across the region, special attention will be given to efforts aimed at clearing the Jammu division of terrorists. The Indian government is particularly concerned about the ongoing presence of terrorists in the higher regions of Jammu, which should have been neutralized during the winter months but are still active.

It is believed that many of these terrorists are from Pakistan, and their survival in extreme winter conditions would have been difficult without local assistance.

The MHA has expressed concerns over the reports of terrorist activity in the upper areas of Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch districts. A joint strategy involving the Army, paramilitary forces, and Jammu and Kashmir Police is expected to be developed to eliminate these terrorists. The exact number of terrorists in these areas remains unclear, but they are believed to operate in small groups of three to four.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir three times this year, on February 4, 5, and 11. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has also chaired two consecutive security review meetings in Srinagar and Jammu this year.

Key officials, including J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Additional DG CID Nitish Kumar, and senior officers from the BSF, CRPF, and intelligence agencies, will be part of the meeting, which will take place at the Jammu Convention Centre.
