Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the religious and cultural importance of the Ganga and Sharda rivers, announcing plans to develop corridors along these sacred rivers to promote religious tourism in the state. According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), CM Dhami emphasized that these rivers are not only vital to people’s lives but also symbolize the faith of millions across the country. He stated, “Our double-engine government is dedicated to developing corridors along these rivers to make religious tourism more accessible and convenient for pilgrims from India and abroad.”
The proposed river corridors aim to improve infrastructure and provide better facilities for visitors, reinforcing Uttarakhand’s status as a major spiritual destination. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of promoting tourism while preserving the state’s rich cultural and religious heritage.
Earlier on Friday, CM Dhami also stressed the importance of ancient Indian scriptures in shaping both scientific and spiritual thought. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 62nd All India Shastraotsav at Patanjali Vishwavidyalaya in Haridwar, he pointed out that Vedic knowledge continues to inspire modern scientific advancements. He noted that ancient scriptures promote health through yoga, pranayama, and meditation, while subjects like arithmetic, algebra, geometry, biology, physics, chemistry, and astronomy reveal mysteries that still intrigue modern scientists and mathematicians.
CM Dhami highlighted the need to educate the younger generation about the contributions of Indian mathematicians, such as the concepts of zero and the decimal system, which form the foundation of modern science. He emphasized that events like Shastraotsav play a crucial role in raising awareness of these ancient achievements. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added, India’s traditional knowledge and culture are gaining global recognition, and the state government is also focused on preserving and promoting this ancient wisdom.
