Rishikesh-Badrinath and Yamunotri Highways blocked after landslide; Schools Closed in Dehradun

Debris from the mountain has fallen on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway. Due to this, the movement of vehicles on this NH is completely closed.

Dehradun, July 10: Due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand, the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway has been closed again due to a landslide near Sirobagad. Due to heavy rains late at night, traffic is completely disrupted due to landslides and boulders in the area.

Debris from the mountain has fallen on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway. Due to this, the movement of vehicles on this NH is completely closed. District administration teams are busy removing the debris from the national highway. Due to this, the Kedarnath-Badrinath highway is blocked.

At the same time, due to rain on the Kedarnath trekking route, pilgrims have been stopped for some time at Sonprayag.

Yamunotri Highway remains closed even after 12 days

On the other hand, the Yamunotri highway is closed for 12 consecutive days near Ojri. On 28 June, a cloudburst caused heavy damage in this area. Due to which 20 to 25 meters of Yamunotri highway was washed away. The work of repairing it is going on, but the sound of vehicles has not started here yet. Due to this, passengers and local people are facing a lot of problems.

Schools declared a holiday in Dehradun

On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in most parts of the state on Thursday as well. According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in some parts of Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Nainital and Bageshwar districts. An orange alert has been issued in these areas. After the alert of the Meteorological Department, orders were issued to close schools from classes 1 to 12 in Dehradun today.

More than 80 roads across the state are closed

Due to heavy rains in the state, more than 80 roads are closed. According to the State Emergency Operation Center, Chamoli district has the maximum number of 17 roads closed. While 12 roads are closed in Uttarkashi district, 15 in Pithoragarh, one in Almora, three in Champawat, five in Dehradun, seven in Nainital, nine in Bageshwar, four in Rudraprayag and eight in Tehri, the work of opening them is going on.
