A tempo traveller lost control and fell into the Alaknanda river on the Badrinath Highway in Uttarakhand. 8 tourists died in the accident, while 15 were injured. It is being told that there were 23 passengers in the tempo traveller. All were going for Badrinath Darshan. The tourists are said to be from Delhi.
Police and SDRF teams have reached the spot. Rescue operation has started. Local people are helping the police. The injured are being taken out and sent to the hospital. The seriously injured are being sent to Rishikesh AIIMS by helicopter.
SP Dr. Vishakha Ashok Bhadane said – A tempo traveller fell into a ditch from the highway near Rantoli in Rudra Prayag. Local people, SDRF, Fire Service, District Disaster Management and Water Police are conducting rescue operations.
The laborer who went to rescue also died
The work of the railway project is going on at the place where the accident happened. 3 laborers jumped into the river to save the people. 2 of them came back. But 1 died in the accident. The place where the traveler fell is said to be 250 feet deep.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident.
He said- Local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The injured have been sent to the nearest medical center for treatment. The District Magistrate has been ordered to investigate the incident.
