New Delhi: Members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal organized demonstrations across various parts of the country in protest against the West Bengal government led by Mamata Banerjee. The protests were sparked by the violence that occurred in Murshidabad on April 11 during demonstrations against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
During the protests, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal vehemently criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating, “We cannot allow the country to be on the brink of terrorism, and we will protect Hindus from every threat. Mamata Banerjee herself acknowledged that foreign elements were involved in the Murshidabad violence. If that is the case, why was she inactive? Why didn’t she request an NIA investigation?”
Bansal further accused the current West Bengal government of acting against the interests of Hindus, declaring, “We will remove this government of ‘invaders.’ Mamata Banerjee has continually supported ‘jihadis.’ What the communists did in the past, she is doing now.”
Similar protests also took place in Hyderabad, where VHP and Bajrang Dal members opposed the West Bengal government’s actions.
On Friday, Alok Kumar, the International President of the VHP, criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s accusations against the Border Security Force (BSF) regarding the Murshidabad violence, labeling them “irresponsible” and “false.” These allegations were made during a meeting with a Muslim cleric. Kumar urged the central government to consider imposing President’s Rule in West Bengal due to the prevailing situation and questioned why Mamata had not called for an NIA investigation if she suspected involvement from Bangladesh.
Kumar stated, “If Bangladesh was implicated and she believes the BSF is at fault, then the NIA should handle the investigation. Will she ask the central government for this? Such reckless statements should not be made against our security forces without any evidence. This is the lowest level of politics, making false allegations in a meeting of Muslim clerics.”
The violence that erupted on April 11 resulted in three fatalities, numerous injuries, and extensive property damage. Several families were displaced, with many fleeing to Jharkhand’s Pakur district, while others sought refuge in relief camps established in Malda.
