The suspect, identified as Akshay alias Golu, sustained a gunshot wound to the foot after a brief exchange of fire with law enforcement.

“On April 17, we received a PCR call at 1:45 am from a complainant who reported that someone had assaulted him and stolen his motorcycle,” Gupta explained. Police reviewed CCTV footage from the vicinity, leading them to recognize the suspect as a known “Bad Character” (BC) in the Najafgarh area.

“Our team identified him as Akshay alias Golu, a BC from Najafgarh. We registered a case and assembled several teams to locate him,” Gupta continued. However, the police could not find Akshay at his residence. Following intelligence reports, officers believed he would appear on Nala Road in the early morning hours.

“We received information that he might come to Nala Road during the night. At 5 am, we spotted him riding the same motorcycle he had stolen. When the police attempted to stop him, he opened fire on our team,” Gupta noted. In response, police returned fire, injuring Akshay in his left foot. He was subsequently hospitalized for treatment.

According to police records, the accused has 13 prior cases against him. In a related effort, the Rohini District Police announced several operations that resulted in over 300 arrests in a 15-day crackdown on organized crime and street criminals from April 1 to April 15, 2025.

During this period, law enforcement registered 48 cases under the Excise Act, 54 under the Gambling Act, and seven under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They arrested 52 individuals in Excise Act cases, 126 in Gambling Act cases, and nine in NDPS-related offenses. The operation resulted in the seizure of Rs 102,580 in cash, 11,144 quarters of illicit liquor, and 227 beer bottles. Additionally, authorities recovered 276.2 grams of smack and 394.78 grams of ganja.

The police also apprehended nine individuals involved in robbery and ten in snatching incidents. Another 45 were arrested in connection with burglary and theft, while 29 individuals were taken into custody for illegal possession of arms, which included five country-made pistols and knives. As part of preventive measures, 16 history sheets were initiated, and 13 externment proceedings were launched, with authorities verifying 148 known robbers and snatchers.

Moreover, 23 individuals were apprehended in connection with cybercrime, and one case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) was registered. The police emphasized that the operation aimed to uphold law and order within the district.
