New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, on Friday, describing it as a significant step toward eliminating years of injustice and corruption in the management of Waqf properties.
Following strong advocacy from Amit Shah and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for the bill in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister J.P. Nadda led a vigorous debate in the Rajya Sabha, where he criticized the Opposition. The Rajya Sabha approved the bill in the early hours of Friday with a majority of 128 votes against 95, shortly after it passed the Lok Sabha following nearly 12 hours of discussion.
Amit Shah took to X to express his sentiments, stating, “Today is a historic day, as Parliament has approved the ‘Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025’, marking the end of years of injustice and corruption and ushering in an era of justice and equality.”
He emphasized that the legislation would make the Waqf Board and Waqf properties more accountable, transparent, and equitable, benefiting the poor, women, and children in the Muslim community.
Shah congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for their roles in advancing the bill, expressing gratitude to all parties and MPs who supported it.
The debate in the Rajya Sabha, which began on Thursday, concluded with the bill’s approval early Friday morning. It will now be sent to President Droupadi Murmu for her assent to become law.
