Mumbai: Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on Monday, leading to waterlogging in multiple parts of the city and disrupting traffic flow. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and surrounding areas, indicating more rain is expected over the next 48 hours.
Regions such as Andheri, Marine Drive, Vile Parle, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus saw significant water accumulation, affecting both vehicles and pedestrians. Commuters were seen wading through flooded streets during the morning rush, with visuals capturing the extent of the waterlogging.
The IMD forecast suggests the weather will remain partly cloudy with moderate rainfall throughout the day. While some areas like Kurla, Borivali, Andheri, and South Mumbai are not directly under weather warnings, nearby regions such as Thane are included in the yellow alert zone.
An IMD official mentioned that conditions might feel slightly cooler, but humidity levels will remain high. The predicted trend for Tuesday points to continued moderate rain under generally overcast skies.
In Delhi, the morning was overcast with a minimum temperature of 27.2°C and humidity at 83%. The IMD predicts rain later in the day.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand faces the prospect of heavy rainfall, with an orange alert issued for six districts including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar.
Officials warned of lightning and strong winds in some areas, prompting the Dehradun district administration to close schools and Anganwadi centers from Classes 1 to 12 on Monday as a safety measure.
