Jammu: Woman was killed, and 11 others were injured in a road accident in Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday. Police reported that a taxi traveling from Chabba to Ramban crashed at Galli Upper Neera around 10:15 a.m., resulting in the death of Sankesha Devi, wife of Raghbeer Singh from Chabba. The injured victims have been transported to the district hospital in Ramban for treatment, and the police are looking into the incident.

Just two days earlier, another accident occurred when a driver from Himachal Pradesh lost his life, and 17 pilgrims sustained injuries when a bus returning from the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine went off the road and fell into a 30-foot gorge near the Manda police checkpost on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

Over-speeding, overloading, and road rage are common causes of such incidents in J&K. In response, the Traffic Department has launched a vigorous campaign against traffic violations, including the enforcement against minors driving vehicles, often with parental consent. In the past two months, more than 3,000 vehicles, including motorcycles and cars, have been seized by traffic officials in Srinagar.

Traffic authorities are also distributing crash helmets to motorcyclists and have instructed filling stations not to provide fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets. Moreover, a public notice has been issued warning that parents of minors caught driving could face legal action, including imprisonment. Community leaders and social organizations are conducting awareness programs to educate young drivers about the dangers of reckless driving, and efforts are being made to curb stunt driving and hazardous behavior on the roads.
