National Desk: Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrashekhar has termed wrong and misleading information as dangerous. He said on Thursday that the enemies of the country use it to create unrest in India and divide the society. The Union Minister was talking to reporters after participating in a program.
He appealed to social media platforms to take special care regarding misleading information, so that the digital citizens of India are not misled through the internet.
The Minister of State for IT said, “Platforms need to take extra precautions to ensure that citizens consuming information from online sources are not misled by people deliberately spreading misinformation and inciting them against India and Indians.” He also said that the Government of India is committed to making the Internet ‘safe and reliable’ for the digital citizens of the country.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to combat online child sexual exploitation, the Minister of State for IT said, “Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) is an unacceptable aspect of the internet. We are taking steps to crack down on this. We have recently issued notices to major platforms like YouTube, Telegram and X (Twitter) and Urging them to proactively remove content from their platforms that makes children vulnerable to exploitation. Internet is a powerful enabler for good works. At the same time, bad people can also misuse it.”
