New Delhi: Elvish Yadav, a well-known YouTuber and winner of Bigg Boss OTT 2, has been summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW) due to alleged racist remarks directed at actor Chum Darang. The NCW has requested Yadav to appear before them on February 17.

The commission took action after Yadav, during a podcast with Bigg Boss 18 contestant Rajat Dalal, reportedly made derogatory comments about Darang, mocking her name and ethnicity. His remarks, which criticized her looks and her role in the film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi,’ sparked significant backlash on social media.

Chum Darang, a contestant on Bigg Boss, responded to the situation with a strong statement on Instagram, indirectly addressing Yadav. She emphasized that crossing the line between humor and hate is unacceptable, stating, “Disrespecting someone’s identity and name is not ‘fun.’ Mocking someone’s achievements is not ‘banter.’ It’s time we draw the line between humor and hate.” She also expressed disappointment that the comments not only targeted her ethnicity but also disrespected her hard work and the film produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

This incident occurs amid ongoing discussions about regulating online content and the boundaries of free speech. The controversy was amplified by a recent viral clip featuring YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia making inappropriate jokes on the show “India’s Got Latent,” which has faced criticism for its dark humor. In response to the backlash, Allahbadia has sought to consolidate multiple FIRs filed against him across India by approaching the Supreme Court.
