NCB Arrests Five Foreign Nationals Linked to Global Drug Network, Seizes Drugs Worth Rs 15 Crore

New Delhi: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested five foreign nationals, including a woman, allegedly linked to a transnational drug trafficking network operating from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Tuesday.

The operation led to the seizure of drugs and controlled substances worth nearly Rs 15 crore, including amphetamine, pseudoephedrine, cocaine and heroin.

Drugs Worth Rs 15 Crore Seized

According to the NCB, the seized contraband included:

• 14.787 kg amphetamine
• 67.840 kg pseudoephedrine
• 318 grams cocaine
• 6 grams heroin

Four of the arrested men are Nigerian nationals identified as Obase Prosper Ogboronjor, Abuchi George Okorie, Uchenna Stephen Nwanko and Chikezie Joshua Igwe.

The identity of the arrested woman, who is believed to be from an African country, is being established.

Nigerian National Arrested in Delhi

Acting on intelligence inputs from the Uttar Pradesh STF, a joint team of the UP STF and NCB searched a premises in Raju Park, Khanpur, New Delhi, on July 18.

The operation resulted in the recovery of 5.087 kg of amphetamine and the arrest of Nigerian national Obase Prosper Ogboronjor.

The UP STF was also looking for him in connection with an alleged cyber-fraud case involving around Rs 68 lakh.

The investigation found that Ogboronjor had allegedly been staying illegally in India after his medical visa expired in June 2023.

Pseudoephedrine Recovered From Gurugram

During a follow-up search at Hans Enclave in Gurugram on July 21, the NCB recovered 9.7 kg of amphetamine and 67.84 kg of pseudoephedrine.

Nigerian national Abuchi George Okorie was arrested from the premises.

The NCB said Okorie had entered India on a medical attendant visa that was valid until June 2015 and had allegedly remained in the country illegally thereafter.

Pseudoephedrine is a controlled substance under the NDPS Act and can be diverted for the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine.

Cocaine, Heroin Recovered in Mehrauli

Following the investigation’s backward linkages, the NCB identified another suspected premises in Mehrauli, Delhi.

A search conducted there on August 3 led to the recovery of 318 grams of cocaine and 6 grams of heroin.

Two Nigerian nationals, Uchenna Stephen Nwanko and Chikezie Joshua Igwe, were arrested.

The NCB said both had allegedly been residing illegally in India for around 13 years.

Woman Injured While Trying to Escape

During the operation, a woman allegedly linked to the network attempted to escape and jumped from a balcony, sustaining injuries.

She is currently undergoing treatment, according to the NCB.

The agency is continuing its investigation to trace the wider network and establish the source and intended destination of the seized substances.
