NCB Cracks Down on Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Aide, Extends Jail Term in Drug Case

Amritsar: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Chandigarh Zonal Unit has taken major action against Sandeep Singh alias Chattha, a resident of Rasulpur Rohi village in Amritsar district, Punjab.

The accused, known to be a close associate of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, has been sentenced to an additional one year in prison under the NDPS Act in a drug trafficking case. He is currently lodged in the high-security Burail Jail in Chandigarh.

Sandeep Singh is a notorious history-sheeter with seven criminal cases registered against him since 2013, including three under the NDPS Act. Despite multiple arrests, he allegedly continued to expand his drug trafficking network, including cross-border operations.

Widespread Network Across Northern India

Investigations revealed that Sandeep Singh played a key role in the large-scale supply of heroin across multiple states. He had reportedly developed a close nexus with gangster Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who is known for supplying weapons and drugs to regions including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Delhi, and Haryana.

Both were earlier arrested together in 2017 in connection with the seizure of 500 grams of heroin, highlighting their long-standing involvement in organized crime.

Preventive Detention Approved by Centre

The NCB had sent a proposal for preventive detention against Sandeep Chattha under the PITNDPS Act in September 2025. Following approval from the Central Government, a detention order was issued, and he was taken into custody on January 7, 2026.

The case was subsequently presented before the Central Advisory Board (PITNDPS) in New Delhi, which conducted a hearing on March 16, 2026. The Board found sufficient grounds to continue his detention, leading to confirmation of the order by the Central Government on March 24, 2026.

Links to Underworld and International Drug Network

Further investigation has revealed that Sandeep Chattha had links with prominent drug lord Akshay Chhabra. Both Chhabra and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria are currently lodged in jails in the Northeast, but agencies suspect their network continues to operate from behind bars.

The NCB believes that Sandeep acted as a crucial link between these criminals and a wider international drug syndicate. Sources indicate possible connections to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim as well as Pakistan’s ISI operative Haji Yusuf.

Authorities continue to probe the extent of the network and its international links.
