NCB arrests Haryana drug smuggler turned Singer after nearly a decade of absconding

Chandigarh: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a long-absconding drug smuggler from Haryana, Jagseer Singh alias Kala alias Baaz, who had been evading authorities for nearly a decade in a 2015 opium smuggling case.

The accused, previously declared a proclaimed offender (PO), was apprehended by the Chandigarh Zonal Unit of the NCB following a targeted operation.

Jagseer Singh, a native of Sirsa, was wanted in a case involving the smuggling of 36.150 kilograms of opium. He was declared a fugitive by the NCB in 2016 after failing to appear before the court. In May 2025, the agency intensified its efforts by publishing his details in newspapers and announcing a reward of ₹50,000 for information leading to his arrest.

According to officials, Singh had been living under a changed identity and had successfully avoided arrest for years. During his time underground, he allegedly rebranded himself as a Punjabi singer and gained popularity on platforms like YouTube and Instagram, often appearing alongside established names in the Punjabi music industry.

Authorities believe his arrest could lead to significant breakthroughs. “This is a major success,” an NCB official said, adding that further interrogation could uncover a broader network involved in drug trafficking.

The agency is now investigating his links within the narcotics trade and exploring possible connections between the drug racket and the entertainment industry.
