NCP (Sharad Pawar) MPs Meet PM Modi, Deny NDA Entry Talks and Delimitation Bill Link

New Delhi: Amid speculation over the NCP (Sharad Pawar) joining the NDA, a delegation of the party’s MPs led by Baramati MP Supriya Sule met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and later dismissed any political angle to the meeting.

The 20-minute meeting focused on Maharashtra-related issues, infrastructure projects and public concerns, according to Shirur MP Dr Amol Kolhe.

MPs Raise Maharashtra Issues With PM

Kolhe said Prime Minister Modi enquired about the health of veteran leader Sharad Pawar at the beginning of the meeting and praised his energy, dedication and long political journey.

The delegation submitted several demands, including a request to confer the Bharat Ratna on social reformers and cultural figures from Maharashtra — Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe and Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj.

The MPs also raised issues related to drought in Beed, infrastructure projects, healthcare, agriculture, employment and transportation.

Bajrang Sonawane urged the Centre to release water from the Ujani Dam to the Manjara Dam to address drought conditions in Beed. The MPs also sought an increase in constituency quotas under the PM CARES Fund for critical medical treatment.

Other issues raised included the naming of Navi Mumbai International Airport after late leader D.B. Patil, the Nashik-Pune high-speed railway line, Pune-Nashik Metro, JNPT port expansion and the Kalyan-Murbad railway line.

NCP (Sharad Pawar) Denies Political Talks

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Supriya Sule said no political issues were discussed with the Prime Minister.

She said that with Parliament proceedings being disrupted, direct meetings were necessary to bring urgent public and constituency-related issues to the Centre’s attention.

Kolhe also rejected speculation that the meeting was linked to the NCP (Sharad Pawar) joining the NDA or supporting a possible Delimitation Bill.

“If anyone has doubts, they should look at the video of our meeting. No political topics or discussions regarding joining the NDA took place,” he said.

Kolhe also pointed out that no Delimitation Bill has been introduced in Parliament yet, making speculation about the party’s position premature.

Party Says It Will Remain in Opposition

Bajrang Sonawane also rejected speculation about the NCP (Sharad Pawar) joining the ruling Mahayuti coalition or the NDA.

“We are not just 100 per cent, but 1,000 per cent committed to remaining in the Opposition,” he said.

Sonawane said the party would continue to raise public grievances from the Opposition Benches and work for the interests of people in Maharashtra.

The MPs also submitted demands related to pending crop insurance claims, insurance coverage for farmers, seasonal schools for children of sugarcane workers, employment opportunities, agro-based industries, food processing, MSMEs and skill development.

They sought faster construction of the Dharashiv-Beed-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway route, special funds for national highways, a medical college and super-speciality health centre in Beed, and a 50-bed critical care block in Ambajogai.

Meanwhile, NCP (Sharad Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar said the party’s eight MPs would vote against the Delimitation Bill in the Lok Sabha.
