NEET UG 2026 Cancelled: SFI Stages Protest in Shimla; Slogans Raised at Summerhill Chowk

The Students Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest at Summerhill Chowk on Wednesday morning against the alleged paper leak and subsequent cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination. During the demonstration, activists raised slogans against the Central Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Mukesh, the SFI’s Campus Secretary, stated that the irregularities exposed in the NEET UG examination have jeopardized the future of lakhs of students. He alleged that transparency and fairness in the examination process have completely eroded, creating an atmosphere of deep insecurity among students.

He added that the recurring instances of paper leaks have made it evident that the NTA has failed to conduct examinations properly. The SFI demanded an impartial inquiry into the entire matter and called for strict action against those found guilty. Additionally, the organization demanded compensation for the mental and financial distress suffered by the students.

Activists participating in the protest criticized the Central Government’s centralized examination system, labeling it detrimental to the education sector. The SFI warned that if prompt action is not taken regarding this matter, the organization will intensify its agitation.

Outrage Among Students Over NEET Cancellation; “We Have to Prepare All Over Again”

The NTA cancelled the NEET-2026 examination on Tuesday following reports of a paper leak. This decision by the NTA has evoked strong reactions from students and parents in Shimla who had appeared for the exam. In Shimla, the NTA had issued admit cards to 3,738 students, out of whom 3,627 actually appeared for the examination. The candidates have raised serious questions regarding the NTA’s functioning.

Students described the cancellation of the NEET examination as unfortunate. Parents of several students pointed out that paper leaks in NEET are not an isolated occurrence; the recurring nature of such incidents is a matter of grave concern.

The cancellation of an examination has a negative psychological impact on students. Candidates emphasized that paper leak incidents adversely affect their mental well-being, hard work, time, and financial resources. Students state that those who performed well in the exam took a break from their studies, but now they will have to resume studying. The students asserted that the government must take strict measures to end the recurring paper leaks. In the capital city of Shimla, the NTA had established nine centers for the NEET examination.
