Nepal flash floods: RSS expresses grief, assures all possible help

New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extensive damage caused by flash floods in Nepal and said the organisation is ready to extend all possible help to the victims.

At least 157 people have been killed and hundreds, including security personnel and tourists, are missing following flash floods in the Bhote Koshi River across three districts of Nepal, according to local media reports.

RSS offers assistance

Taking to X, the RSS expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to people affected and injured in the disaster.

“The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh expresses its profound condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives, as well as to the affected and injured, due to the devastating floods that struck the northern border regions of Nepal,” the organisation said.

The RSS said the severe flooding on Wednesday morning affected Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, Chitwan and eastern Nawalparasi districts, leaving thousands of people affected.

“We stand ready to assist the victims of this disaster and will make every possible effort to provide help,” it said, while appealing to people to come forward with assistance during the crisis.

Hundreds missing after flash floods

The flooding was triggered after an avalanche blocked the flow of the Lhende tributary of the Bhotekoshi River and subsequently hit Timure near the Nepal-China border at Rasuwagadhi, according to reports.

Meanwhile, 391 tourists and 44 security personnel have reportedly gone missing following the disaster.

The flash floods have caused extensive damage across affected areas, with rescue and relief operations continuing.

India sends 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid

India has extended 10 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to Nepal to support relief operations following the devastating floods.

India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, formally handed over the aid consignment to Nepal’s Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Khadak Raj Paudel.

The assistance includes essential relief materials for communities affected by widespread flooding and landslides.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India stands firmly with Nepal and remains committed to extending all possible support.
