Europe Visit Opens New Opportunities for Punjab’s Farmers, Industries, and Youth: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has presented a detailed report on his recent visit to the Netherlands and Finland, highlighting key achievements and partnerships aimed at strengthening agriculture, industry, innovation, and skill development in the state.

Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister stated that the Punjab government secured significant international collaborations that are expected to benefit farmers, young people, entrepreneurs, and the overall state economy. He emphasized that strategic partnerships forged during the visit will accelerate crop diversification, attract investment, and position Punjab as a global hub for innovation, research, development, and high-value agriculture.

Focus on Agricultural Innovation and Diversification

A major highlight of the visit was the strengthening of agricultural cooperation with leading institutions in the Netherlands. The Chief Minister noted that, alongside a proposed ₹1,300 crore investment by Zaika, discussions on advanced horticulture and agricultural technologies are expected to play a crucial role in promoting crop diversification in Punjab.

On the first day of the visit, the Punjab delegation was welcomed by the Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands. The delegation then visited the world-renowned Keukenhof horticultural model, which attracts approximately 40,000 visitors daily. Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration in horticulture development and the export potential of Punjab-grown roses and other high-value crops.

Strengthening Industrial and Educational Partnerships

The Chief Minister said the visit was also aimed at promoting industrial investment, fostering educational and research collaborations, and encouraging technological exchange. Meetings with international stakeholders explored opportunities for joint projects in sustainable agriculture, modern farming techniques, and the production of high-quality export-oriented crops.

According to Mann, the discussions also opened avenues for skill development programs, academic exchanges, industrial partnerships, and new investment opportunities. Agreements were reached to strengthen cooperation in technology transfer and innovation, areas in which the Netherlands is recognized as a global leader.

Learning from Advanced Farming Models

On April 20, the delegation visited the World Horti Center and met representatives of the Netherlands India Chamber of Commerce and Trade, as well as members of the Punjabi diaspora.

The Chief Minister highlighted the productivity gains achieved through advanced farming techniques in the Netherlands. He noted that while conventional open-field farming typically produces around 6

kilograms of tomatoes per square meter, greenhouse and polyhouse cultivation methods in the Netherlands can yield up to 100 kilograms per square meter.

The delegation also conducted an investment roadshow aimed at attracting foreign investment and exploring opportunities in sectors such as semiconductors, electronics, and innovation-driven industries.

New Investment and Innovation Opportunities

Mann stated that the visit has already produced encouraging outcomes. A proposal has been presented to establish a research and development center and innovation hub in Mohali. In addition, plans for a horticulture experience and training center in Punjab have received approval.

He added that overseas Punjabis welcomed the government’s initiatives, including efforts to strengthen legislation against sacrilege and the fact that it was the first time a Punjabi delegation had undertaken such an official visit to the Netherlands.

Positioning Punjab as a Global Innovation Hub

The Chief Minister said several international companies have expressed strong interest in investing and forming partnerships in Punjab. These collaborations are expected to create opportunities in technology transfer, research, innovation, and startup development.

He emphasized that the partnerships will support crop diversification, encourage the adoption of high-tech farming methods, and strengthen Punjab’s image as an innovation-driven, investor-friendly destination on the global stage.

Mann said, “The visit has opened new doors for Punjab’s farmers, industries, students, and entrepreneurs. Through international collaboration, modern technology, and strategic investments, we are building a stronger and more prosperous future for the state.”
