‘New threats’ to expel poor immigrants from US

Since Donald Trump assumed power in the US, not only the US but also its fellow prosperous countries, Canada, Britain, and Australia, have been attempting to expel legal and illegal immigrants (whether Indians or citizens of the 19 other countries Trump released a list about, claiming they are the ones responsible for everything from illegal activities to violent acts) from their countries by rejecting them. Indians are present in significant numbers in these countries.

Illegal immigrants are being deported to India in a highly disrespectful manner, handcuffed and shackled. Mr. Trump is not prepared to tolerate these people, but instead wants to expel them, even though America’s labor force is built on their strength. Recently, National Guardsman Sarah was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting by Afghan refugee Rahmanullah outside the White House. Angered by this attack, Trump declared that entry into the US is barred to all immigrants from poor countries. Even current immigrants deemed a security threat will be immediately deported.

Following US policy, Canada has tightened student visas, and as the visa rejection rate has reached 75 percent, new admissions have fallen by 40 percent. Today, 70 percent more visa applications are being rejected. In 2023, this rate was 32 percent. Students arriving in Britain on study visas could bring dependent families with them, but from 2025, visa renewals have become stricter, prohibiting bringing families. Many Indians who arrived this way have been forced to leave the UK. Australia has also implemented a new migration policy this year, making it more difficult to obtain student visas, work visas, and permanent residence. While there were 96,490 Indian student immigrants in 2024, this number has dropped to 87,600 this year.

Now that these prosperous countries have implemented this self-serving policy, it has become extremely difficult for students from India and the other 19 poor countries to enter them. The US has extended the period for granting green cards, and there are currently approximately one million Indians on the green card waiting list. However, the US and other prosperous countries should not forget that their current progress, growth, and prosperity are the result of the hard work and efforts of these immigrant citizens. A hidden political message to the governments of Europe, Canada, and Australia is to prevent large-scale immigration to the US.

The economies of these countries are largely dependent on the hard work of their citizens. If the US or its allies ignore this hard work and continue to make it increasingly difficult for these immigrants to enter the US, it will undoubtedly harm not only India but also these prosperous countries. This youthful diaspora is a cheap and strong foundation for their country’s production process. If this very foundation is disrespected and fragmented, it will harm not only India’s young generation but also 19+ Third World countries that are under America’s evil eye. An entire group of immigrants is being subjected to deportation because of a single refugee’s shooting. This cannot be justified on any ground of justice.
