NIA chargesheet arms India to expose Pakistan’s Pahalgam bluff globally

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA has filed a detailed 1,597-page chargesheet in the Pahalgam terror attack case, eight months after the incident, firmly establishing Pakistan’s direct role in the attack. Officials said the document will strengthen India’s position in exposing Pakistan’s involvement on global platforms.

Chargesheet establishes Pakistan link

The chargesheet names the terrorists, their handlers and masterminds, and lays out operational details of the attack. One of its most significant findings is the clear evidence linking the attackers to Pakistan. Officials said the document counters Pakistan’s repeated denial of involvement and reinforces India’s claims before the international community.

The NIA recovered two Android mobile phones from the site of Operation Mahadev in Dachigam, where three Pakistani terrorists were killed. Forensic analysis confirmed that the phones were purchased in Pakistan and directly linked the attackers to the country. Security forces also recovered M4 assault rifles, chocolates and other items of Pakistani origin from the encounter site.

Pakistani nationals, Lashkar proxy identified

The probe identified the terrorists as Faisal Watt, Habeeb Tahir and Hamza Afghani, all Pakistani nationals. The investigation further established that the attack was masterminded by Sajjad Jutt, a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba operative who oversees operations of its proxy outfit, The Resistance Front.

Jutt has been on Indian intelligence radar since his involvement in terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir in the early 2000s. Officials said he also masterminded the 2024 Reasi bus attack that killed nine pilgrims, the 2023 Bhata Dhurian attack in Poonch that left five soldiers dead, and several earlier attacks in the Valley.

India to counter Pakistan’s narrative globally

Officials said Pakistan initially attempted to portray the attack as a local act to incite public anger against Kashmiris and create divisions within India. While the move briefly caused disruption, it failed in the long run, with tourism in Jammu and Kashmir recovering.

The chargesheet, officials said, not only justifies India’s actions following the Pahalgam attack, including Operation Sindoor, but also exposes Pakistan’s attempts to play the victim internationally. “The document alone is enough to call out Pakistan’s bluff,” an official said.
