NIA Charge Sheets Bihar Labourer for Aiding LeT Terror Network in Tamil Nadu, J&K

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a chargesheet against a migrant labourer from Bihar for allegedly supporting proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in carrying out terror activities in Jammu & Kashmir and Tamil Nadu.

The accused, identified as Akhalatur alias Mohammed Akhlaque Mujahid, hails from Katihar district in Bihar and has been booked under Sections 196 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 13(1)(b) and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

According to the agency, the chargesheet was filed before the NIA Special Court at Poonamallee, Chennai.

Akhalatur, employed as a construction labourer in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, was arrested by the Kayar Police in April this year for alleged involvement in anti-national activities.

“NIA investigations revealed that the accused was in touch with LeT handlers in Pakistan through cyberspace and conspired with them to target Kafirs (non-believers) in Tamil Nadu,” the agency said in a statement.

The probe further found that Akhalatur attempted to contact arms dealers with the intent to procure weapons and carry out a ‘Jihadi-style’ attack to destabilise the country.

However, his plans were foiled through timely intervention by the NIA and other security agencies.

The case — registered as RC-01/2025/NIA/CHE (Akhalatur LeT and Salafi Ideologue case) — remains under investigation as part of the agency’s wider efforts to counter radicalisation and violent extremism in India.

Earlier this month, the NIA filed a chargesheet against eight accused in the 2020 transnational narco-terror network case, which involved smuggling drugs from Pakistan through Gujarat to fund LeT operations.
