Patna, Bihar: In its first meeting after securing victory in the Bihar assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Cabinet rolled out an expansive development roadmap focused on large-scale job creation and technological advancement.

The government committed to generating one crore employment opportunities for the state’s youth over the next five years while setting the vision of transforming Bihar into the “tech hub of eastern India”.

Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, addressing the media after the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, said the discussions centred on accelerating industrialisation and boosting job creation across sectors.

Major Tech and Industrial Initiatives Announced

According to the Chief Secretary, the government plans to establish a defence corridor, a semiconductor manufacturing park, global capacity centres, a mega tech city, and a fitness city to drive Bihar’s emergence as a major technology centre.

He noted that the state aims to evolve into a “back-end hub and global workplace” within the next five years, supported by multiple committees formed to guide and execute these initiatives.

Additional measures include the formation of a committee dedicated to creating employment-oriented programmes for start-ups, encouraging livelihood opportunities for young entrepreneurs. During the session, the Cabinet also approved an Artificial Intelligence Mission to position Bihar as a significant player in the AI sector.

The government’s development blueprint further includes launching greenfield township projects in eleven urban centres—covering nine divisional headquarters along with Sonepur and Sitamarhi. Plans were also announced to revive nine closed sugar mills and establish 25 new ones.

Vision for a Modern, Innovation-Driven Bihar

Commenting on the broader economic strategy, Nitish Kumar explained the state’s focus on modernising its development model.

“After the formation of the new government, we have swiftly started working to promote industries in the state and create more employment opportunities… To accelerate the pace of development in the changing Bihar, we have set the goal of building a New Age Economy based on technology and service innovations in Bihar,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that the government will collaborate with leading entrepreneurs, economists, and experts to build policies and an action framework aimed at establishing Bihar as a “Global Back-End Hub” and “Global Workplace”.
