Nitish Kumar to step down as Bihar CM, files nomination for Rajya Sabha

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar filed his nomination for Rajya Sabha seat on Thursday at the Assembly. BJP President Nitin Naveen, Ramnath Thakur, Upendra Kushwaha, and Shivesh Kumar also filed their nominations alongside the Chief Minister. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present.

What Nitish said?

In a post on X, Nitish said, “For more than two decades, you have consistently placed your trust and support in me, and it is on the strength of that trust that we have served Bihar and all of you with complete dedication. It was the power of your trust and support that has enabled Bihar today to present a new dimension of development and dignity. For this, I have expressed my gratitude to you many times in the past as well.”

He added, “From the very beginning of my parliamentary journey, there has been a desire in my heart to become a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislature as well as both Houses of Parliament. In keeping with this aspiration, I seek to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in the elections being held this time.”

He further added, “I want to assure you with complete honesty that my relationship with you will continue in the future as well, and my resolve to work together with you to build a developed Bihar will remain steadfast. The new government that will be formed will have my full cooperation and guidance.“

Speculations are rife that Nitish Kumar will file his nomination papers alongside BJP National President Nitin Nabin. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to be present. Amit Shah will arrive in Patna at 12 noon today.

Meanwhile, amid reports of CM Nitish’s Rajya Sabha nomination, JDU workers have begun arriving at the CM House. Workers say, “Nitish Kumar is from Bihar. We will not let him go anywhere. We will sacrifice our lives.” Workers are crying outside the CM’s house.

Meanwhile, an important meeting was called at the CM’s residence starting at 6 pm on Wednesday. JDU Executive President Sanjay Jha and Minister Vijay Chaudhary were present.

Vijay Chaudhary confirmed Kumar’s entry to Rajya Sabha 

State minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary had confirmed on Wednesday that Kumar was considering entering the Rajya Sabha. If it happens, then it would bring to an end his tenure as the longest-serving chief minister of the state.
