No Bangladeshi Murder Suspects in Meghalaya, Authorities Clarify Amid Rumours

New Delhi : Meghalaya Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday dismissed rumors surfacing in Bangladeshi media that two accused in the Osman Hadi murder case—Faisal Karim Masood and Alamgir Sheikh—had entered India from Bangladesh’s Haluaghat border. Senior security officials termed it “false and fabricated” and said such rumors could create confusion among citizens and disturb the peace of the culturally sensitive border state of Meghalaya.

Review of False Claims and Media Reports

A senior official at the Meghalaya Police Headquarters stated that no formal or informal information was received from the Bangladesh Police and no accused had been traced in the Garo Hills. No arrests have been made.

The report claimed that the two accused were assisted by local associates—Purti and taxi driver Sami. Police clarified that there is no intelligence input, on-the-ground verification, or operational evidence supporting the alleged involvement of these accused or the roles of these individuals.

“Neither Purti nor Sami has been identified or apprehended at any location. This narrative appears to have been fabricated without verification and coordination with Indian authorities.”

BSF support and vigilance increased

BSF IG of Meghalaya Frontier, OP Upadhyay, said,

“There is no evidence of any person entering Meghalaya from the Haluaghat sector. No such incidents have been detected, and the reports are completely false and misleading.”

Officials said this is not the first time misleading reports have appeared in the Bangladeshi media. About two weeks ago, a similar report surfaced that the BSF had killed two Bangladeshi infiltrators, which Indian authorities later completely denied.

Although the current allegations have been dismissed, the Meghalaya Police stated that border vigilance has been increased. Intelligence sources are active, and close coordination with the BSF continues to prevent potential criminal activities.

The police and BSF stressed that they are ready to cooperate with Bangladeshi authorities, but action will only be taken based on verified information. Rumors and stories cannot be substituted for facts.
