No chance of cold wave in Punjab yet; Pollution level reduced after change in wind direction

Weather conditions in Punjab remain stable. There has been no change in temperatures in the past 24 hours, and similar weather is expected in the coming days. However, with no rain forecast, there is little chance of a chill or relief from pollution in the state.

Meanwhile, a slight improvement in air quality has been observed, but experts say that lasting relief is only possible after rain. According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the state’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was around 216 on October 23rd, while an improvement was observed on October 24th.

On October 24th, the AQI was recorded at around 180, which is a relief for the people of the state. This slight change in air quality will not last long. Experts believe that a permanent solution to this pollution problem will only be possible after rain. However, there is no sign of rain in the coming days.

Change in wind speed brings relief

For the past few days, the wind flow has been from Pakistan towards India and from Himachal towards the lower regions. However, this has changed in the last 24 hours. The wind from the mountains has shifted from India towards Pakistan, bringing slight relief from pollution in Punjab.

Despite this change, the situation in the districts remains dire. Rupnagar, which was in the green zone, has also moved into the yellow zone, with an AQI of 190. However, Bathinda, which had an AQI of 167 till yesterday, has now reached an AQI of 73. Only three cities in the state, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Mandi Gobindgarh, have recorded AQIs above 200.

28 new cases of stubble burning have been reported

Punjab is witnessing a steady increase in cases of stubble burning. According to data from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), 28 new stubble burning incidents were reported in the state on Thursday, bringing the total number of cases since September 15 to 512.

According to the data, 188 cases were reported till October 16, while the number has now risen to 512, representing an increase of 324 new cases. Tarn Taran is leading the way.
