The young man who drowned in the Sutlej Canal during idol immersion in Ludhiana on Thursday remained untraced for a second day. Police and family members conducted a nine-hour search in the canal yesterday, but found no trace.
However, the police, along with a diving team, will resume the search today (Friday). The young man was identified as Ankit (22), a resident of Puneet Nagar and the only brother of two sisters.
Youth Drowned After Slipping
Ankit’s sister, crying, said, “On Thursday morning, around 9:30 a.m., we all reached the Sutlej Bridge for idol immersion. My brother was at the front, carrying the idol. After placing the idol in the water, he went a little deeper and suddenly slipped.
He began to drown due to the strong current. We shouted, people came running, and many tried to hold his hand, but he drowned. He has not been found yet.” With tears in her eyes, the sister repeatedly said, “We only had one brother.”
The search operation will resume today.
The Ladowal police station stated that they have received a complaint from the family. Divers were called to the scene, and a search was conducted. The young man has not yet been located. A search operation will resume today.
