North and South embrace each other’s languages

This Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi organised the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi. He urged citizens to seize the opportunity to learn the Tamil language. This initiative begins today, December 2nd, at Namo Ghat in Varanasi. Three previous attempts have been made, and this is the fourth edition of the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam. It effectively urges North India not only to embrace Tamil but also to dedicate its taxes and pens to it.

May these bridges of culture be built, between Hindi and Tamil, and between Tamil and Hindi. The cultural harmony this will create in the country will provide a fitting expulsion from the chauvinism that fundamentalists in both parts of the country are seen resorting to violence, embracing. It’s not just that; if we are to return to the glory of our past, we can only achieve this through our indigenous languages. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has also expressed this concern in Nagpur. Undoubtedly, Mohan Bhagwat’s recent statements are very realistic and attempt to capture the state and direction of the country in its true perspective.

Mohan Bhagwat was in Nagpur for the launch of the English version of Saint Shri Dnyaneshwar’s book, but he expressed deep concern over the disappearance of linguistic heritage from society. He said that the English we are pursuing has its own limitations. Take Saint Dnyaneshwar; he translated the knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita into Marathi to better understand society. It is a matter of great sadness that linguistic heritage is disappearing in our society today.

Shouldn’t we introspect? We claim to be the world’s guru, talk about filling the world with knowledge through our thousands of years old heritage, but in the name of modernity, we ourselves chase fashionable English. This is not the right path. The right path is for North India to adopt South Indian Tamil and Tamil Nadu to adopt Hindi. All the languages of the country should accept Sanskrit as their mother and create a limitless dictionary of expression that offers numerous options for expressing every emotion. The time has come for us to embrace the dignity of our indigenous languages, rather than becoming ruins of Anglicism, and to give our expression its own form, not a borrowed form from the British.
