NSUI worker assault case: Congress protest continues outside Jaipur Police Commissionerate

Jaipur: Congress leaders continued their protest outside the Jaipur Police Commissionerate on Tuesday, demanding the registration of a zero FIR in the case of alleged assault and misconduct against NSUI National Secretary Ritu Barala in Delhi. The protest, which began on Monday evening, neared its 24-hour mark, while tensions between Congress workers and the police escalated.

On Tuesday, Congress leaders and workers raised slogans outside the Police Commissionerate, leading to a scuffle with police personnel. According to reports, police used mild force to disperse the protesters.

Meanwhile, Jaipur Police stated that there was no need to file a separate FIR in this matter, as a case had already been registered at the Connaught Place Police Station in Delhi regarding the October 13 incident.

Jaipur Police Citing Case Registered in Delhi

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ajay Singh stated that Ritu Barala’s complaint has been merged with the ongoing investigation in Delhi. Jaipur Police stated that when a case has been registered in Delhi based on the same facts, it would not be legally justified to file a separate FIR in Jaipur.

Police also stated that Ritu Barala filed a complaint at the Connaught Place Police Station in Delhi on October 13, the day of the incident, and that the Delhi Police is investigating the matter.

However, the police questioned Barala’s claim that she was unable to file a report in Delhi due to her medical treatment.

Govind Singh Dotasara Challenges to Show Copy of FIR

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Govind Singh Dotasara demanded a copy of the FIR registered in Delhi from the police. He stated that if the police produced the documents, Congress leaders would immediately end the protest.

Dotasara said, “The police should show us which FIR was registered in Delhi. If they show us a copy, we will leave immediately. In fact, an FIR has been registered against these youth in Delhi.”

He said that it is their legal right to file a zero FIR, and what problem does the police have with that? Dotasara questioned the police’s claims, citing the example of a zero FIR registered in Kerala.

He said, “It is our legal right to file a zero FIR. What problem is there? A zero FIR was registered in Kerala, while the police are making false statements. No one has spoken to us. We will fight until the end, although our doors are open for dialogue with the police.”

Dotasara arrived at the Police Commissionerate around 6:15 pm on Monday. He spent Monday night on the floor there with other Congress leaders. On Tuesday, tea and snacks were also served at the protest site.

During the protest, Dotasara angrily asked a fellow Congress leader where he could find the Jaipur Police Commissioner. To this, the leader reportedly replied, “In the BJP camp.”

Claim of protest starting after Rahul Gandhi’s call

This protest comes at a time when it has emerged that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, allegedly called Dotasara. According to reports, Rahul Gandhi asked him to ensure that an FIR is filed in Jaipur in this matter.

Congress leaders allege that despite Ritu Barala’s complaint, an FIR is not being registered in Jaipur. Party leaders and workers are staging a protest outside the Police Commissionerate demanding the same.

Tikaram Julie raises questions on the issue of women’s safety

Tikaram Julie, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, questioned why an FIR was not filed when Ritu Barala filed complaints in Delhi and Jaipur.

He alleged that Barala’s complaint was not formally registered in Delhi and that no action was taken on his complaint in Jaipur.

Julie asked, “Do BJP members consider themselves above the law?”

They also attacked the government on the issue of women’s safety and dignity. Julie said, “Those who talk about women’s safety, women’s dignity, and the ‘Beti Bachao’ campaign are themselves committing injustice against a daughter. We stand firmly here. The police must file an FIR.”

Congress leaders have clarified that their protest will continue until their demand for an FIR in Ritu Barala’s case is met. Meanwhile, Jaipur police say that filing a separate FIR is inappropriate because an investigation is already underway in Delhi.
