Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch has arrested a Delhi-based man in connection with a ₹2.06 crore online investment fraud, officials said. The accused, identified as a 56-year-old resident of West Delhi, was allegedly involved in duping a victim through a fake online trading platform.
According to investigators, the fraud began when the victim was added to a WhatsApp group without consent. The group members posed as financial experts and a fund manager, sharing stock market tips and analysis to build credibility.
Multi-Transaction Fraud Over Months
Believing the scheme to be genuine, the victim transferred over ₹2.06 crore through 54 transactions to multiple bank accounts between December 2024 and March 2025. The funds were routed through several beneficiary accounts controlled by the fraud network.
Arrest After Digital Trail Analysis
Following a detailed investigation involving financial and digital evidence, the Crime Branch tracked the accused to Delhi and carried out a successful operation to apprehend him. Officials also seized incriminating materials, including mobile phones, SIM cards, and identity documents.
Police have reiterated warnings to the public against unsolicited investment offers on social media and messaging platforms, urging people to verify sources before transferring money.
