J&K CM Omar Abdullah Inaugurates Upgraded Residency Road High Street in Jammu Under Smart City Mission

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday inaugurated the upgraded Residency Road High Street in Jammu city, developed under the Smart City Mission at a cost of Rs 9.18 crore.

The Office of the J&K Chief Minister shared the update on X, stating that the project marks a significant step towards modernising urban infrastructure and improving public facilities for residents and visitors.

“MLA Yudhvir Sethi and officers of the Housing and Urban Development Department were present on the occasion,” the post mentioned.

Project aims to boost urban facilities

The upgraded Residency Road–High Street project has been developed to provide better civic amenities and create a more organised urban space in Jammu.

The initiative is part of the Jammu Smart City Mission, which focuses on improving infrastructure, enhancing public spaces and making the city more convenient for citizens and tourists.

125 of 127 Smart City projects completed in Jammu

The Jammu Smart City Mission has completed 125 out of 127 sanctioned projects with a total investment of Rs 2,940 crore.

Major projects completed recently include the upgraded Residency Road–High Street, the Heritage Trail and the Bahu Fort Food Street. Only two projects under the wider urban development initiative are pending completion.

Nearly 98 per cent of planned infrastructure and public convenience works in Jammu city have been completed, officials said.

Srinagar Smart City Mission also progresses

The Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal programme of the Government of India aimed at developing sustainable, citizen-friendly cities across the country.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar Smart City Mission has completed 157 out of 161 projects worth Rs 3,634 crore, with the remaining works in the final stages.
