Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the families of two migrant workers who were killed in a terror attack in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The financial assistance comes as the administration seeks to provide immediate relief to the bereaved families and reiterates its commitment to combating terrorism.

The victims, both migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh, were attacked by terrorists while working at a brick kiln in the Kulgam district. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with political leaders describing the killings as a brutal assault on innocent civilians. Authorities have launched an extensive investigation and security forces have intensified search operations to track down those responsible.

Chief Minister Condemns the Attack

Condemning the attack, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the killings as a “dastardly” and “senseless” act of terror. He expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and announced the compensation from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The Chief Minister’s Office also stated that the district administration will provide an additional Rs 6 lakh to the families, taking the total compensation package to Rs 16 lakh for each deceased worker.

Security Tightened Across South Kashmir

Following the attack, security agencies launched a massive search operation in and around the Kulgam area. Additional forces have been deployed across south Kashmir to prevent any further terror incidents and to ensure the safety of civilians, including migrant workers employed in the region.

Officials said intelligence inputs are being examined, while forensic and investigative teams are gathering evidence from the attack site. The incident has once again raised concerns over the security of non-local workers in Jammu and Kashmir.

Government Assures Support to Victims’ Families

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has assured the victims’ families of all possible assistance during this difficult time. Officials said every effort is being made to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice while strengthening security arrangements in vulnerable areas.

The attack marks the first major targeted assault on migrant workers in the region in nearly two years, prompting renewed focus on security measures for non-local labourers working across the Kashmir Valley.
