One killed, 14 injured in central Afghanistan road accident

Kabul: In central Afghanistan’s Bamiyan province, a tragic accident resulted in one death and 14 injuries when a vehicle veered off the road and overturned, according to the state-owned Bakhtar News Agency.

The incident took place in the Kotal Bukak area of Yakawlang district, where a mini-bus experienced a technical fault and flipped over.

Mohammad Khawani Rasa, provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that the crash claimed one life instantly and injured 14 others, including women and children. All those injured were taken to nearby health facilities for treatment.

In another recent accident in eastern Afghanistan’s Ghazni province, at least six people lost their lives and 30 others were wounded in a highway crash on July 28. The incident occurred in the Askarkot region of Qarabagh district, on the main route linking Kandahar to Kabul.

According to Mohammad Zark Zirak, head of provincial public health, a bus collided with a fuel tanker across the road, resulting in six fatalities and injuring 30 people. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition and have been hospitalized.

Road accidents are frequent in Afghanistan, often caused by reckless driving, poor road conditions, and a shortage of traffic signage on deteriorating highways.

Earlier, on May 3, five people, including a child, were killed when a speeding vehicle fell into Pashdan Dam in Herat after colliding with a motorcycle.

Herat governor’s spokesperson, Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, confirmed the incident, stating that two occupants of the vehicle were rescued alive.
