OP Singh appointed as acting DGP Haryana after govt sends Shatrujeet Kapur on leave

IPS OP Singh has been appointed as the acting DGP of Haryana. The announcement came hours after the government sent Shatrujeet Kapur on leave.  This development came amid a probe into the suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.

Who is OP Singh?

The Haryana Government has assigned the additional charge of Director General of Police (DGP) to Om Parkash Singh, IPS (HY:1992 RR). Singh, who currently serves as Managing Director of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation, Panchkula, and Director of FSL Madhuban. He will hold the DGP position during the leave period of Shatrujeet Singh Kapur.

Shatrujeet Kapur sent on leave 

Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur has been sent on leave amid the Indian Police Service (IPS) officer’s suicide row. The Chandigarh Police have registered a first information report (FIR) taking cognizance of a “final note” left behind by Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide on October 7.

The FIR came hours after Puran Kumar’s wife and senior IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar sought Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s intervention to ensure the registration of an FIR and suspension and arrest of those named in the “final note” by her husband.
