Oracle layoffs hit India, 12,000 employees affected

Oracle has reportedly laid off around 30,000 employees worldwide as part of a major restructuring exercise. Out of these, nearly 12,000 employees in India have been affected.

Reports suggest that the company may carry out another round of job cuts within the next month as it looks to streamline operations.

Reason behind job cuts
Employees were informed through internal communication that organisational changes have led to certain roles becoming redundant. The move is aimed at improving efficiency and restructuring business operations.

Oracle employs about 1.62 lakh people globally, with around 30,000 employees in India before the layoffs.

Severance package and employee concerns
Affected employees in India have reportedly been offered compensation, including 15 days’ salary per year of service, notice pay, leave encashment and gratuity benefits. An additional two-month salary has also been offered as a top-up in some cases.

However, the severance benefits are said to be applicable mainly to those who resign voluntarily, raising concerns among impacted workers.
