Orange alert issued for cold wave and dense fog in Punjab: Weather to change from tomorrow

People in Punjab and Chandigarh will have to endure the cold wave for another two days. According to the Meteorological Department, an orange alert for cold wave and dense fog has been issued for Punjab today (Thursday). While there has been a slight increase in maximum and minimum temperatures in the last 24 hours, the maximum temperature is still 6.3 degrees Celsius below normal and the minimum temperature is 3.2 degrees Celsius below normal.

On Wednesday, Bathinda and Faridkot recorded the lowest temperature at 3.2 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall is expected in the hills and light rain in Punjab from the 16th. Rain and hailstorms are also possible next week.

22 Flights Cancelled Due to Fog
A total of 22 flights to and from Chandigarh Airport were cancelled by 10 pm on Wednesday night due to fog. The cancelled flights from Chandigarh include 6E681 (Pune), 6E2113 (Delhi), 6E7413 (Jaipur), 6E5261 (Mumbai), 6E2315 (Delhi), 6E146 (Lucknow), 6E627 (Kolkata), 6E7743 (Jaipur), 6E6634 (Bengaluru), 6E2195 (Delhi), and 5E5019 (Mumbai).

Similarly, the cancelled flights arriving in Chandigarh include 6E6448 (Delhi), 6E6552 (Lucknow), 6E7414 (Jaipur), 6E6204 (Mumbai), 6E6506 (Ahmedabad), 6E6252 (Hyderabad), 6E242 (Pune), 6E7742 (Jaipur), 6E7517 (Dharamshala), and 6E2196 (Delhi). Cold wave alert in 7 districts today
According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog is expected today in Amritsar, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Malerkotla.

Meanwhile, dense fog is possible in some places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, and Mansa. Cold day conditions are likely in Amritsar and Tarn Taran. Similarly, a cold wave may prevail in Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, and Ludhiana. The weather is expected to remain dry.

According to Surendra Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain dry until the 17th, and there is no possibility of rain. However, light rain may occur in some parts of the state between the 18th and 20th. The minimum temperature will gradually increase by 3 to 5 degrees over the next 5 days. After that, there will be no significant change in temperature.
