Jodhpur: A 20-year-old youth, whose family had migrated from Pakistan nearly two decades ago, was found murdered under suspicious circumstances in his house in Mahadev Nagar, under the Mata Ka Than Police Station area of Jodhpur on Monday morning, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Vijay Kumar, a car mechanic by profession.
Victim Found Tied and Gagged
According to police, Vijay’s mouth was stuffed with a cloth, and his hands and legs were tied behind his back with a rope. Preliminary investigation suggests the murder took place on Sunday night when he was alone at home.
When Vijay did not respond to phone calls on Monday morning, his neighbours and relatives went to check on him and found him dead. The police were informed immediately.
Family Migrated from Pakistan 20 Years Ago
Neighbour Kanhaiyalal told police that Vijay’s family had migrated from Pakistan about 20 years ago and later obtained Indian citizenship. The family currently resides in Phalodi, while Vijay lived alone in Jodhpur for work.
He added that there were signs of struggle and dragging inside the house, indicating that Vijay had attempted to resist his attackers. The family’s dog was found outside the house at the time of the discovery.
Police Investigation Underway
Senior officials, including ADCP East Virendra Singh, ACP Mandore Nagendra Kumar, and the FSL team, reached the spot and collected forensic evidence.
The body has been shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police said the investigation is challenging due to the limited CCTV coverage in the locality.
Officials suspect the involvement of close relatives or someone known to the victim, as there were no signs of forced entry.
Victim Recently Engaged
The case has drawn added sensitivity as Vijay was recently engaged, police sources said.
Investigators have begun questioning family members, relatives, and acquaintances to ascertain the motive and identify the culprits behind the murder.
