Pakistan: Adiala jail green-lights visit by Imran Khan’s sister

Islamabad: Adiala jail authorities on Tuesday allowed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khanum, to meet him after repeatedly denying access to his family and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders. Her visit came as scores of PTI supporters gathered outside the prison, according to local media reports.

Protests and Security Measures Intensify
The decision follows PTI-led protests outside the Islamabad High Court and Adiala jail over restrictions on Khan’s visitation rights. PTI maintains that neither party leaders nor family members have been permitted to meet him for several weeks. KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said no one had been allowed to meet Khan or his wife Bushra Bibi since October 27. Section 144 was imposed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of the demonstrations.

HRCP Flags Concerns Over Detention Conditions
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) expressed deep concern over reports of restricted family and legal access for Khan, calling for urgent clarification and adherence to due-process standards. Meanwhile, Adiala jail officials reiterated last week that Khan remains in good health and has not been transferred.

Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 and faces multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism, following his removal from power in 2022.
