Pakistan: Heavy Rains Kill Four in Balochistan; Punjab Also Reports Rain-Related Deaths

Islamabad: At least four people were killed and several others injured after heavy monsoon rains triggered house collapses, flash floods and widespread destruction across Pakistan’s Balochistan province, officials said on Friday.

The latest fatalities come a day after rain-related incidents in Pakistan’s Punjab province claimed two lives and left nine others injured, highlighting the growing impact of the monsoon season across the country.

Roof Collapses Leave Four Dead

According to officials, the worst-hit areas in Balochistan were Zhob and Khuzdar districts. In Zhob, the roofs of two mud houses collapsed near Bacha Khan School and Shamsi Colony following heavy rainfall.

A woman and two children were killed after being buried under the debris, while around a dozen members of the affected families sustained injuries. Rescue teams, police and district administration officials rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Zhob. Those critically injured were later referred to Quetta for specialised treatment.

In a separate rain-related incident in Khuzdar district, a child lost his life and four others were injured as heavy rains and thunderstorms damaged mud houses and uprooted trees and billboards.

Flash Floods Damage Roads, Homes and Power Supply

Officials said pre-monsoon rains disrupted normal life across several parts of Balochistan. Flash floods damaged inter-district roads, while homes, crops and public infrastructure suffered extensive damage.

Power supply remained disrupted in several areas, including the provincial capital Quetta, due to the adverse weather conditions.

Punjab Also Hit by Deadly Rain Incidents

On Thursday, Pakistan’s Punjab province reported two deaths and nine injuries in multiple rain-related incidents, according to Rescue 1122.

Officials said strong winds and heavy rain caused walls, roofs and billboards to collapse in districts including Attock, Khushab, Sargodha and Sheikhupura. In Attock, two people died and three others were injured after a wall collapsed. Separate incidents involving roof collapses, lightning strikes and falling signboards left several others injured.

Emergency teams responded to all incidents and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as more rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast in the coming days.
