Pakistan Confirms India Struck Nur Khan Air Base in Op Sindoor Strikes

Islamabad: The Pakistani government is once again in the international spotlight, having acknowledged the impact of India’s strategic and precision strikes on its military installations in May. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed at a year-end press conference that India had targeted the Noor Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, causing damage to the military base and injuring personnel deployed there.

80 drones in 36 hours, Noor Khan Airbase damaged

Dar said that India had sent several drones into Pakistani territory within 36 hours. According to him:

“At least 80 drones were sent in 36 hours. We intercepted 79 drones, but one drone damaged a military base and injured personnel.”

He said that a meeting of the civilian and military leadership was held on the night of May 9th under the leadership of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and decisions were taken based on the situation. Dar also admitted that India attacked and damaged the Nur Khan Airbase on the morning of May 10th.

Tensions escalate after Operation Sindoor, Pakistan calls for ceasefire

India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7th in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22nd (26 civilians killed). The operation targeted nine terrorist bases in PoJK and Pakistan.

Following this, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated, and Pakistan intensified shelling, which was retaliated by India. As tensions escalated, Pakistan’s DGMO contacted India’s DGMO and proposed a ceasefire, which India accepted. This was confirmed by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

Damage confirmed by satellite images

Satellite images released by Maxar Technologies on May 13th showed significant damage at several Pakistani airbases. These include:

Nur Khan Airbase, Rawalpindi
PAF Base Mushaf, Sargodha
Bholari Airbase
PAF Base Shahbaz, Jacobabad

Compared images from April 25, 2025, and May 10, 2025, showed clear damage.

This is not the first time the Pakistani leadership has acknowledged attacks. Shahbaz Sharif also stated on May 16 that Indian ballistic missiles struck the Nur Khan Airbase and other targets, and that the PAF used indigenous technology and advanced equipment over Chinese fighter jets to defend the country.
