Pakistan Sends Expired Relief Supplies to Sri Lanka Amid Cyclone Ditwah Crisis

Pakistan has sent expired relief supplies to Sri Lanka. According to media reports, Pakistan sent aid to Sri Lanka to combat Cyclone Ditwah, but the expiration date on those food packets was October 2024.

Pakistan sent several packages containing water, milk powder, and flour. The Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka posted a related message on social media on November 30th. It also shared photos of the relief items, which clearly show their expiration dates.

The post is going viral, with many users criticizing Pakistan. However, Pakistan has yet to respond.

Sri Lanka is facing severe flooding due to Cyclone Ditawah. 390 people have been confirmed dead and 370 are missing. More than 1.1 million people have been affected in the country, with approximately 200,000 people forced to flee their homes and are living in shelters.

India opens airspace for Pakistani flight carrying relief material

India has allowed a Pakistani flight carrying relief supplies for Cyclone Ditwah-hit Sri Lanka to pass through its airspace, a clearance granted within just four hours.

A government statement said that Pakistan requested an overflight of Indian airspace at approximately 1 p.m. on Monday. The purpose was stated to be to deliver humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka. India processed the request expeditiously.

Meanwhile, Pakistani media had previously claimed that India had refused to open its airspace for Pakistan. India rejected these claims.

Ditwah is the most dangerous storm in 20 years.

Cyclone Ditvaah is the fourth cyclone of the 2025 North Indian Ocean cyclone season, which formed on 26 November near the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka.

It was named by Yemen. It is considered the deadliest storm to hit Sri Lanka in 20 years.
