Pakistan: Three Police Personnel Killed After Vehicle Attacked in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad: Three traffic police personnel were killed after unidentified armed assailants attacked their mobile van in the Wazirabad Bazaar area of Tank district in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, local media reported.

District Police Officer Abdul Samad Khan said the three traffic police personnel died at the scene after armed men attacked their mobile van.

According to the official, the attackers also took away the police vehicle, which was later recovered. Two passers-by were injured in the attack and taken to hospital for treatment, Pakistani daily Dawn reported.

Police Launch Search for Attackers

Abdul Samad Khan said police have sealed roads and other possible routes in an effort to prevent the attackers from fleeing the area.

Security forces are conducting searches to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.

The incident comes amid a reported rise in attacks targeting law enforcement personnel in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Recent Police Attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

On September 26, at least 12 people were killed and 35 others injured after a police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came under a bomb attack, according to Dawn.

Officials said an explosives-laden trolley was rammed into the Aman Mela police checkpost in Dera Ismail Khan’s Darazinda tehsil.

Dera Ismail Khan District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed described the incident as a suicide blast. A large portion of the checkpost was destroyed, while a house adjacent to the post was also completely damaged.

The casualties in that attack included nine men, two women and a child.

Constable Killed in Balochistan Attack

Earlier, on September 10, a police constable was killed and another seriously injured after unidentified assailants targeted a checkpost in the Kank area of Mastung district in Balochistan.

Police said the attackers targeted the checkpost before fleeing after an exchange of fire with police personnel stationed there.

The latest attack adds to a series of incidents targeting security and law enforcement personnel in Pakistan’s western provinces.
