Panchayat Poll Violence in Ferozepur, BJP Candidate Hurt

Ferozepur: The Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections concluded in Ferozepur district on Saturday amid sporadic incidents of violence reported from different areas.

In one such incident at village Bukkankhan Wala, Jagdeep Singh, a BJP candidate contesting the Block Samiti polls from the Fattuwala zone, was injured in an alleged attack by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers.

Jagdeep Singh Alleges Assualt

Speaking to the media, Jagdeep Singh alleged that he had received information about booth capturing in the village and reached the spot to intervene. “I tried to convince them not to disturb the brotherhood of the village. Instead, they abused me, pulled off my turban and beard, and attacked me,” he claimed.

According to Jagdeep, one of the accused, identified as Gautam, a resident of Bukkankhan Wala and an SAD supporter, allegedly attacked him with a pair of scissors, causing injuries.

Ferozepur Election Turnout

Meanwhile, election officials said that polling remained largely peaceful across the district despite isolated incidents. By 12 noon, an overall voter turnout of 15.20 per cent had been recorded in the border district.
