Panchkula: Police in Haryana’s Panchkula district have safely recovered an 81-year-old retired army officer and reunited him with his family. The elderly officer had gone missing from his home on Wednesday morning, leaving his family distraught. Police recovered him safely late at night and reunited him with his family.
Panchkula DCP Srishti Gupta stated that the retired officer, who lived in the urban area, had left home in the morning but did not return for a long time. When he was still untraceable after a considerable period, the family feared something was amiss.
Family’s Search Fails, Police Seek Help
The family initially tried to find him on their own. Searches were conducted in nearby areas, markets, parks, and familiar locations, but no clues were found. The family then went to the Sector 14 police station and filed a missing person report.
Recognizing the seriousness of the matter, the police immediately took action, as the missing person was a senior citizen and his health could be at risk if he was away for long periods.
Information shared on social media and police networks
The police team, led by Sector 14 police station in-charge Inspector Hariram, immediately shared the elderly officer’s photo and description on all police WhatsApp groups, PCR, field riders, and social media platforms. The aim was to spread the information to as many people as possible and to intensify the search with the help of the general public.
In addition, police teams were deployed in the surrounding areas. Searches were conducted at bus stops, markets, public places, and crowded areas. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras was also scanned to trace the officer’s movements.
Important Clues Found in Zirakpur
In the evening, police received information that an elderly man matching the description provided had been seen in the Zirakpur area. Upon receiving the information, Panchkula police immediately contacted Zirakpur police and local sources to confirm the information.
Acting swiftly, a police team arrived and identified the elderly officer and safely took him into custody. Fortunately, he was found to be completely safe and in stable condition. According to police officials, this success was possible due to timely information sharing and excellent coordination between districts.
Safe Return Late at Night, Family Reunion
The police team returned to Panchkula with the elderly officer around 10 pm. His family was immediately informed. After the family arrived, the necessary formalities were completed and the officer was handed over to them. The family heaved a sigh of relief at seeing their loved one safe and commended the police’s promptness.
DCP Srishti Gupta said that this case demonstrates that timely information, the proper use of social media, and the collaboration between various police units can successfully solve any sensitive case.
Police Appeal: Report Missing Persons Immediately
The police have appealed to the public to inform the police immediately if anyone, especially the elderly or those in poor health, goes missing. Reporting information in the early hours can rapidly expand the search area and significantly increase the chances of safe recovery.
This case is a positive example of police promptness, effective use of technology, and community cooperation, which played a key role in safely reuniting a senior citizen with their family.
