Amit Shah’s Panchkula Visit on Dec 24: CM Saini Reviews Preparations, Tight Security and Traffic Curbs

Panchkula: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday reviewed preparations for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Panchkula on December 24th. This visit falls on the eve of the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During the visit, Amit Shah will unveil a statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Park in Sector 1, MDC.

Chief Minister Saini directed officials to ensure the smooth conduct of police, cooperative, and cultural programs scheduled throughout the day.

As per the schedule, Amit Shah will first participate as the chief guest at the Mega Cooperative Conference being held at the Indradhanush Auditorium in Sector 5, where he will interact with representatives from the cooperative sector and share his vision for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country. He will then address the passing-out parade of newly recruited police personnel at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Stadium in Sector 3.

In the evening, Amit Shah will unveil a statue of Vajpayee at Atal Park and inaugurate a blood donation camp. He will then attend the “Salute to Sahibzadas” program organized at the Indradhanush Auditorium as the chief guest on the occasion of Veer Bal Diwas. The program will include an exhibition on the lives and sacrifices of the four Sahibzadas, a sand art show, and the release of a coffee table book and vision document.

High Alert and Security Arrangements

In view of the VVIP visit, a high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of ADGP (Law and Order) Sanjay Singh, where security arrangements were finalized. A multi-layered security cordon has been put in place in the district, and additional police forces have been deployed at all entry and exit points.

With approximately 20,000 people expected to attend the events, all PCR, rider, and emergency response vehicles (ERVs) have been put on alert. Police teams will conduct ground patrols, while rooftop surveillance will also be maintained using binoculars. The entire district has been declared a no-fly zone for drones, with only authorized drones permitted for recording police parades.

Traffic Advisories and Restrictions

In view of Amit Shah’s visit, DCP (Crime and Traffic) Manpreet Singh Sudan has issued a detailed traffic advisory and appealed for public cooperation. The road from Shalimar Chowk to Tawa Chowk will be completely closed from 7 am to 8 pm, and no parking will be permitted on this route. Designated parking spaces have been established at Shalimar Ground and near the Chhath Puja Ghat.

Movement of vehicles, except for emergency vehicles, will be restricted from Sector 17/18 Chowk to Bellavista Chowk after 4 pm. The Chandigarh-Panchkula Road (Saketri Marg) will also remain closed, and commuters have been advised to take alternative routes.

To ensure smooth VVIP movement, the district administration has invoked Section 163 of the BNSS, prohibiting entry of heavy commercial vehicles from 6 am on December 24 until the end of the events. Only vehicles connected with essential government services will be allowed.
