Protests Erupt at Panjab University Over RSS Event; Several Students Detained

Chandigarh: A controversy erupted at Panjab University on Monday over an RSS-related event. Some students on campus began shouting slogans in protest, leading to a tense atmosphere. The university administration informed Police Station 11 about the situation.

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and a heavy police force, led by Station House Officer-11 Inspector Jaspal Bhullar, was deployed on the university campus. Police detained several students who were shouting slogans, placed them on a bus, and took them to the police station.

During this, a scuffle broke out between the police and the students. Several leaders were dragged away by the police. A police officer took one student away by the collar.

According to the party, several students lost their turbans during the scuffle. 

Students allege propaganda in the university

The protesting students, members of the Sath Party, stated that no organization or party should be allowed to promote itself on the university campus. They stated that Panjab University is an educational institution and should be kept away from politics. They alleged that individuals associated with the RSS had come to the university to campaign, which they opposed. Some students even raised slogans while being transported on the bus.

Told about the Sikh Gurus in the program

Meanwhile, ABVP Punjab University unit president Ashish Sharma said that RSS North Region Pracharak Pramukh Banveer Rana had visited the university. He provided information about the history of the Sikh Gurus and their sacrifices for the country. According to Ashish Sharma, the event had no political connection.

He said the RSS respects all religions and that the event was organized by university students. He also said that some student organizations are opposing it because of the approaching elections in Punjab, while the event was intended solely to provide historical and cultural information.
