Parliament Monsoon Session Begins Today; Opposition Set to Corner Centre Over Ram Temple Row, NEET Paper Leak

New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament begins on Monday, July 20, with the BJP-led NDA government set to push its legislative agenda, while the Opposition prepares to mount a coordinated attack over issues including the alleged Ram Temple donation controversy, the NEET paper leak, Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike, E20 fuel rollout and foreign policy.

Stormy start expected as Opposition gears up

The session is expected to witness heated exchanges from the very first day, with Opposition parties demanding discussions on the alleged irregularities in Ram Temple donations, the NEET paper leak controversy and other issues they claim require immediate government response. Leaders have also indicated that Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike, E20 petrol rollout and the situation in Manipur could be raised during the proceedings.

The INDIA bloc is expected to coordinate its strategy inside Parliament to press the Centre for answers on these issues, making the session politically significant.

Government to push key Bills during session

Alongside political debates, the government is expected to introduce and take up several important Bills during the session. These include the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to extend statutory protection to ‘Vande Mataram’, along with other legislative proposals on taxation, governance and education.

The session is scheduled to run until August 13, with both the government and the Opposition expected to engage in debates on key national issues.

High security in Delhi

Security has been tightened across the national capital ahead of the session. Delhi Police have imposed prohibitory measures in parts of New Delhi and warned against any unauthorised protests near Parliament, particularly in view of the proposed march linked to activist Sonam Wangchuk’s supporters.
