On Wednesday morning, a speeding private bus ran over four people—including those on a motorcycle and a scooter—on the Pathankot-Jalandhar National Highway. The bus was traveling from Jalandhar to Jammu. After losing control, the driver drove the bus into people standing by the roadside. Two people died on the spot.

The deceased sustained severe head injuries, while the injured suffered multiple injuries. Even after the initial impact, the driver of the ‘Lakshmi Holidays’ bus dragged the victims for about 200 feet. During this time, he also struck a woman who was walking along the roadside with her child.

Following the incident, an angry mob set the bus on fire. Police arrived at the scene as the situation became tense. The Nangalbhoor police station is investigating the matter.

Lakshmi Holidays bus was en route from Jalandhar to Jammu

The accident occurred around 10:00 AM on Wednesday. The Lakshmi Holidays bus (registration number AR2-0B-0956), traveling from Jalandhar to Jammu, suddenly went out of control. At the time, several people were standing at a junction near Sandeepni Gurukul School in Kauntarpur. The out-of-control bus struck a motorcycle and a scooter parked by the roadside, as well as two other individuals.

Bus did not stop even after hitting the scooter

According to local resident and retired Subedar Major Prahlad Singh, the Lakshmi Holidays bus first collided with the scooter belonging to Ranjeet Singh (38), a villager. After the collision, the scooter got trapped under the bus, but instead of stopping, the driver attempted to speed away. Subsequently, the bus also hit Arun Kumar, who was standing by the roadside with his motorcycle.

Even after the initial impact, the bus driver dragged both vehicles forward for approximately 200 feet. During this process, he also struck a woman from Napwal village who was walking along the roadside with her child. The bus was also severely damaged following the collision.

Two dead on the spot, two injured

Four people were injured in the accident. Two of them—who had been riding the motorcycle and the scooter—were being rushed to Raj Neuro Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to their injuries on the way. The deceased have been identified as Ranjeet Singh (38) and Arun Kumar (32), both residents of Kautarpur. Ranjeet Singh is survived by two sons, aged 3 and 6; he used to assist his father with farming. Meanwhile, Arun Kumar worked at a tent house in the village.

Bus set on fire after driver and conductor fled

Prahlad Singh stated that the bus driver and conductor fled the scene immediately after the accident. Enraged by this, a crowd of villagers set the bus on fire. He noted that while several accidents have occurred on this road in the past, the police administration fails to take any action against these bus operators.
