Patiala: Video before canal jump; 3 children dead, couple survives

A VIDEO made before the Mohali couple jumped into the canal with 3 children in Patiala has surfaced. In this 17-second video, the person says – We are fed up with our parents and sisters and have started dying. My parents and my sister will be responsible for this. That is the only responsibility. In this video, he also shows his three children and wife along with himself.

The couple first tied the hands and feet of the three children and threw them into the canal. Then he jumped in too. The three children were swept away in the strong current and could not even try to save their lives as their hands and feet were tied. His body was found a kilometre away. At the same time, people took them out as soon as they came to know about the couple’s jump. He survived.

It has also come to light that the family had earlier laid down on the railway track to commit suicide, but the train did not come. After this, they jumped into the canal. The couple had tied the hands and feet of the children and threw them, which could not save their lives. The police have arrested the couple.

The couple reached the canal riding a bike.
According to information, this incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Bhakra Narwana branch canal passing through the village Khedi Gandia in Rajpura, near the Naradu Wale bridge. The couple, who belonged to the village Maujpur in the Landran area of Mohali, had reached there with their children on a bike.

According to the relatives, Harprabhjot Singh (40) and his wife Jaswinder Kaur (35) from the village Maujpur went on a bike with their three children: 14-year-old son Ekamjot, 12-year-old daughter Muskaan Kaur, and 8-year-old daughter Ranveer Kaur.

When they reached the Bhakra Narwana branch canal near the Naradu Wale bridge passing through the village Khedi Gandia, they stopped the bike and tied the children’s hands and feet with a scarf. After this, they first picked up the children and threw them into the canal. Then they jumped in themselves.

People saved the couple, children’s lives were lost
Seeing the family drowning in the canal, the local people present there immediately tried to save them. After a lot of effort, people managed to safely bring out Harprabhjot Singh and Jaswinder Kaur, but their three children were swept away by the strong current of the water.

Divers retrieved the bodies at 4 o’clock.
As soon as the incident was reported, the police and the team of divers reached the scene. The team of divers, Bhole Shankar and Rajiv Kumar, carried out a rescue operation and by around 4 PM, the bodies of all three children were recovered from the canal about 1 kilometer from the site of the incident.

Diver Rajiv Kumar stated that the team had reached the site, but due to the strong current, the children could not be saved. The bodies were taken out and handed over to the police. Dr. Tarnjit Kaur of the government hospital confirmed that all three bodies were brought to the hospital.

Mother said – If there was an issue with us, they could have killed us.
The police say that the couple had made a video before jumping into the canal. In it, they said that the wife Jaswinder Kaur could not get along with her mother-in-law Gurmel Kaur. Because of this, there were frequent quarrels at home. When the couple’s relatives got this information, they started wailing. Sarwan Singh, 70, father of Harprabhjot Singh, and his 65-year-old mother Gurmel Kaur, living in Maujpur village, said – If they wanted to kill, they could have killed us. What did the children do wrong?

Police investigating the case
The police have kept the children’s bodies in the mortuary of Rajpura Hospital and have started investigating the case. DSP Daljeet Singh Virk of Ghanour said that the couple is currently in deep shock. Therefore, their statements could not be recorded.
