At least two members of a family died after their car plunged into a canal in the Bikram block of Patna district, Bihar on Wednesday morning, police said. The incident occurred when the vehicle skidded off the road into a nearby canal, resulting in a fatal crash.
The deceased were part of the same family travelling together when their car veered off the road near Bikram chowk and fell into the canal. Immediate rescue operations were launched by local police and fire brigade personnel, who recovered the bodies from the water.
A search continued for any other occupants of the vehicle, and the car was later pulled out of the canal as investigations progressed.
Officials said the cause of the accident is being ascertained, but preliminary reports suggest that slippery road conditions and possible loss of control by the driver may have contributed to the tragedy. The Bikram police station has registered a case and is investigating all angles.
Authorities are also reviewing whether speed and visibility issues played a role and are examining eyewitness accounts to determine the full sequence of events.
In the aftermath of the accident, Patna officials urged motorists to exercise caution on wet or narrow stretches of road, especially near water bodies like canals and drains, to prevent similar tragedies.
