New Delhi: Congress MP Pawan Khera on Saturday criticised the BJP-led Central Government over the installation of large curtains and temporary barricades to screen off slum clusters and low-income neighbourhoods along key transit routes in New Delhi ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit.
Khera accused the government of attempting to hide India’s socioeconomic realities from visiting foreign dignitaries instead of addressing poverty.
Sharing a video of the arrangements on X, Khera wrote, “Not all ‘hijabs’ are unacceptable to the BJP. The one that veils Modi’s failures is their favourite.”
Manish Tewari Raises Concerns Over Changing Global Order
Earlier in the day, Congress MP Manish Tewari said engagement through platforms such as BRICS, ASEAN, Quad and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was more important than focusing solely on the outcomes of individual meetings amid what he described as a changing global order.
Tewari said the existing global order had collapsed while a new one had not yet emerged.
Speaking about the role of multilateral platforms, he said countries were trying to navigate the changing global situation and determine what would emerge from the current period of uncertainty.
Tewari Calls For Greater Engagement Through Global Platforms
Tewari said countries should focus on strengthening the process of interaction rather than only examining the outcomes of individual meetings.
He said continued engagement between countries was necessary for a viable world order to emerge, warning that without such interaction, the world could regress to older patterns of international relations.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit under its 2026 Chairmanship on September 12-13. India’s Chairmanship is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, with development, sustainability and innovation forming key areas of focus.
